Fertilizer Calculator

How many pounds of fertilizer do you need?

Goal: Apply 1 lb of actual nitrogen per 1,000 sq ft per application. Do not exceed this without a soil test.

1.0 lb is the standard safe rate

How to use these tools

๐Ÿ’ง Watering Calculator

  1. 1. Measure your lawn square footage
  2. 2. Do the tuna can test to find your sprinkler's output rate
  3. 3. Enter both values to get your session time
  4. 4. Run that duration, twice per week, early morning

Tuna can test:

Place empty cans in your lawn, run sprinklers for 15 min, measure depth collected. Multiply by 4 for inches/hour.

๐ŸŒฑ Fertilizer Calculator

  1. 1. Measure your lawn square footage
  2. 2. Check the bag for the N-P-K ratio (first number is nitrogen %)
  3. 3. Select your fertilizer and target rate
  4. 4. Get the exact pounds needed and calibrate your spreader

Reading the bag:

A 32-0-8 fertilizer is 32% nitrogen. A 50 lb bag contains 16 lbs of actual nitrogen.
